Nick’s Perspective

August 14, 2009

More about our hospital journey this evening, until then enjoy this song.

Each night I turn on some music for the girls to go to sleep to and to block out the noise from the house. One of the songs that they listen to is Time Has Told Me by Nick Drake. Everyone in our family has listened to this song so many times, but only recently did I focus on the lyrics. A couple of phrases stood out to me.

Your tears they tell me
There’s really no way
Of ending your troubles
With things you can say

AND

Time has told me
You’re a rare, rare find

For me, when I hear this song, I often feel melancholy or filled with tears. Nick knows. Whomever he is singing about has troubles too. And like us, these troubles will not go away with any words. Nothing anyone can say will make us feel better.

However, this does not mean to not try.

And I apply the rare, rare find to all of my family.  Each and every one of us is a rare find. I am grateful for my husband, Isa, G and Brudder because each of them bring me things that enrich my life.

Time Has Told Me

by Nick Drake

Time has told me
You’re a rare, rare find
A troubled cure
For a troubled mind

And time has told me
Not to ask for more
For someday our Ocean
Will find it’s shore

So I’ll leave the ways of making me be
What I really don’t want to be
Leave the ways that are making me love
What I really don’t want to love

Time has told me
You came with the dawn
A soul with no footprint
A rose with no thorn
Your tears they tell me
There’s really no way
Of ending your troubles
With things you can say

And time will tell you
To stay by my side
To keep on trying
‘til theres no more to hide
So leave the ways that are making you be
What you really don’t want to be
Leave the ways that are making you love
What you really don’t want to love

Time has told me
You’re a rare, rare find

You could be a rare find as well, DONATE HEALTHY PLATELETS.

Happy Birthday Señor. May it be better than last year.
